You may be tired of hearing about certain topics, but the literary world isn’t tired of writing about them.
The topics in question? COVID-19 and the anti-racism movement.
NPR has interviewed the author of a new book about each subject (and the audio of each is embedded below).
On the medical side is Dr. Sanjay Gupta, whose World War C predicts that we’ll be living with COVID for a long time — but that we’ve learned enough from these past few years to cope with it and with the next pandemics.
And on the linguistic side is John McWhorter, whose Woke Racism: How a New Religion Has Betrayed Black America argues that the cultural left has taken its fight against racism in the wrong direction.
McWhorter, a linguist who also teaches at Columbia University, shares more of his concerns about anti-racism in an interview with NPR.
