A true-crime lover reflects on the appeal of cozy mysteries

Cozy mysteries never really left the literary landscape, but Alyse Burnside realized recently that they’re still making a comeback, of sorts.

While today’s cozies share a distance from the actual gore of murder with forebears like Miss Marple and Nancy Drew, she says, they aren’t all shying away from tougher (but less bloody) topics.

Burnside explains how this is both a change and yet not a change from their earlier form in an essay on cozy mysteries in the Atlantic.
