The time peg to this story has passed, but we’re in the end-of-the-year news drought, so here it is anyway.

Writer/playwright Samuel Beckett, who died 32 years ago plus a week or so, used to drive André the Giant to school.

Literary Hub notes that the correct reason for this (not the urban legends) is that Beckett had hired the boy’s father to help build him a cottage in France.

André the Giant later became a professional wrestler and actor, best known for his turn in the movie The Princess Bride — an adaptation of the William Goldman novel.
