Reading about a land that’s fallen victim to a tragedy and reading books by its authors may not contribute much to solving humanitarian crises.
But it is human nature to want to know more.
As Afghanistan did last year, Ukraine has become front and center in the minds of many Americans who may not have thought much about the country on a daily basis before.
And so two literary websites have created reading lists for those wanting to learn more about Ukraine and its people.
BookRiot has collected eleven Ukraininan novels and two children’s books available in English.
Electric Literature, meanwhile, mixes fiction and nonfiction about Ukraine's fights for democracy in its list.
