On this day in 1890, Bram Stoker began work on his best-known novel, Dracula.
But today, we'll feature a different piece of writing from Stoker: his letters to the American poet Walt Whitman.
The National Endowment for the Humanities takes a long look at Stoker's evolving admiration for Whitman and his missives of praise.
While the letters might seem awkward or too intense for modern eyes, Whitman responded favorably, thanking Stoker for his kind words.
