Q&A: Karina McRoberts

Today we're interviewing Karina McRoberts, an author, conservation scientist, musician, and visual artist.

She lives on a rural property near York, Western Australia (one Australia’s most-haunted towns).  She and her husband are working to convert their land back to its natural state.

McRoberts believes in everyone reaching their full potential, and helps via free and low-cost workshops and tutoring.

SADYE: Tell us something about your writing process that’s unusual or that you haven’t revealed before. 

KARINA: The more I write, and this is writing that’s not pressured or dead-lined (good word, that — you can die trying to reach that line), the more I find so-called fantasy becoming reality.  

Yeah, I know, the "standard" definition of nutsville. But what do we really know about it?  

So, things “come to me” and I use words to make them into something real-world that I can sometimes share with others in a very intimate way. 

Think about it. What a journey that creative little spark from somewhere makes to me, and then on to a reader!  

For me, this is an outstanding adventure of wonder and discovery and I love sharing it!

SADYE: Which of your characters would you most and least like to become romantically involved with?

KARINA: Most — John Templeton Gordon, Esq. from The Palace of the Stars. He’s gorgeous and glorious and as real to me as real can be. My ghost dancer.

Least – Heston Fasterlake, also from this novel. Real bad guy. No way in the world.

SADYE: What has been the most touching or memorable piece of reader feedback you’ve received?

KARINA: A note from a bed-ridden reader who told me she was able to travel through time by reading my book, The Palace of the Stars.

SADYE: What message or theme would you like readers to take away from your work?

KARINA: I write in a number of genres, but I always aim to take readers from the heights of their hearts to the depths of the souls.

SADYE: What advice, as relates to your writing career, would you give your younger self?

KARINA: Sadly, not everyone appreciates semi-colons.
