A new literary prize might be run by a British bookseller, but the shortlist certainly has established appeal in other English-speaking countries.
The Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize, launched just this year, has two books also chosen for US celebrity book clubs earlier this year.
The titles in contention are:
-
Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus
-
The Rabbit Hutch, by Tess Gunty
-
Trespasses, by Louise Kennedy
-
How High We Go in the Dark, by Sequoia Nagamatsu
-
Vagabonds!, by Eloghosa Osunde
-
Memphis, by Tara M. Stringfellow
We'll find out who won the £5,000 (about $5,950) prize on August 25; in the meantime, you can read more about the nominated books and authors in the Guardian.
