Well, that was some fortuitous timing. 

On the same day that Gayl Jones's new novel, The Birdcatcher, was revealed as a nominee for the National Book Award for Fiction, Literary Hub had posted an excerpt of that novel just hours earlier.

The Birdcatcher is narrated by a Black writer living on the island of Ibiza, along with her closest friend, also a Black artist, who is repeatedly institutionalized for trying to kill her stubbornly loyal husband.
