We might have to retire "the dog ate my homework" and swap in "the dog helps with my homework."

Canadian researchers did a study with seven- and eight-year-old children that found reading out loud to a dog was more helpful than doing so to an adult.

Psychology Today, which shared the study, said that the kids benefit from having a nonjudgmental listener that pays close attention to them.
