Those of you who love languages and history are in luck.

El Pais reports that researchers believe they've found the oldest text written in the Basque language.

And the article covering the find is jam-packed with historical and cultural context about the Basque people and their language.

The short version, though, is that a bronze plate unearthed near Pamplona, Spain, in 2021 has been dubbed the Hand of Irulegi, and its writing is believed to go back 2,100 years.

Only the first word has been deciphered; it's believed to say "sorioneku," or "good fortune."
