We know plenty of people — ourselves included — who may pick up a celebrity book club pick, without the intention of discussing it with others.

But Elle Hunt's piece in the Guardian is the first time we've really given much thought to the actual club portion of a book club.

Hunt decided to join and participate in Reese Witherspoon's book club, but her piece also examines the broader trend of celebrity book clubs and the various messages they signal.

For her part, she found the conversation in Reese's Book Club to be thoughtful and interesting, though it was noteworthy that someone else led the conversation with that month's author, not Witherspoon herself.
