Digital lending hit a record again, according to the digital reading platform OverDrive.

It said in a news release that 555 million ebooks, audiobooks, and digital magazines were checked out last year at schools and public libraries, a 10 percent increase over 2021.

And in that time, the network surpassed 3 billion total ebook checkouts since the first one in 2003.

The number of public library systems recording over a million digital book loans also continued to rise, with 129 systems hitting that milestone.

Publishers Weekly shares more digital lending news of note from the 88,000 libraries and schools that use OverDrive.
