As NPR's Juana Summers notes, this is one of the times of the year when many of us think more about our bodies.

So how about taking a less judgmental approach, both to our own and to others'?

One way to start would be listening to the interview with Aubrey Gordon, author of the new release "You Just Need To Lose Weight" and 19 Other Myths About Fat People.

(She's also the co-host of one of my favorite podcasts, Maintenance Phase.)

The majority of the interview focuses on the word "fat" itself — how we use it, what other value judgments we assign to it, and how we can all perhaps pull some of its negative power away from it.

Read a transcript of Summers and Gordon's conversation about the book, which hit shelves today, or listen to it on NPR's website.
