Interested in another book that shocked a nation?

French writer Constance Debré was just, last fall published in English for the first time.

The US already had — and the UK will soon have — a translation of the second novel in her recent trilogy that's based on her own life ... which is where the scandal enters.

Debré, a scion of a French political dynasty with a successful career as a defense lawyer, came out as gay in her forties.

Much of the drama following that announcement found its way into her trilogy, though the Guardian notes that Debré views her writing as fiction still and not autobiography.

In Love Me Tender, the book that's been translated into English, the particular drama from Debré's life is the efforts of an estranged husband to keep his newly-out-as-lesbian wife from seeing their child.
