Emma Straub, the bestselling author of such novels as All Adults Here and The Vacationers, was supposed to read her first children's book to Houston-area elementary students.

That invitation has been rescinded, however.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Katy Independent School District officials received a complaint from a parent about Straub's "foul language" on social media and decided to cancel her appearances at two elementary schools.

Upon hearing that announcement, Katy ISD parent Anne Russey — upset that the district had simply canceled versus offering parents the opportunity to withdraw their children from the presentation — posted another district parent's complaint on Twitter.

That parent had apparently objected to a tweet Straub sent that included the f-word to express her outrage over the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting ... the same day the shooting took place.

Straub thanked Russey online for her support and noted that the only f-words in her presentation about Very Many Hats were "funny, feline, feelings."
