Former President Donald Trump is suing journalist Bob Woodward and his publisher, as he threatened to do last fall.

Woodward, who interviewed Trump multiple times for what would become his 2020 book Rage, released audio from those interviews as the 2022 book The Trump Tapes: Bob Woodward's Twenty Interviews with President Donald Trump.

That book, according to the suit Trump filed on Monday, was released without his consent and attempts to make him "look as bad as possible" by editing his answers.

He's seeking more than $49 million, plus punitive damages and attorney fees.

Woodward and his publisher, Simon & Schuster, issued a joint statement calling the lawsuit "without merit" and promising to fight it.

The statement also noted that the interviews were on the record and recorded with Trump's "knowledge and agreement," reports NPR.
