Author Salman Rushdie has given his first interview since being stabbed last summer at an event.
The Guardian shared some of his comments, made in a conversation with The New Yorker.
Rushdie's "overwhelming feeling," as he put it, is gratitude — gratitude that he survived, gratitude for the medical personnel who treated him, and gratitude for his family's support.
He emphasized that the only person he blames for the attack is the man who stabbed him, not those responsible for security decisions at the venue.
Rushdie spent years in hiding and even more in exile because of the fatwa (or edict) that Iran's leader issued for his death over his novel The Satanic Verses, seen as blasphemous by some Muslims.
