First, she's known for expressing and acting on desire.
And second, Chaucer might be the person responsible for turning St. Valentine's Day into a romantic holiday.
Oxford professor Marion Turner has dedicated an entire book to the Canterbury Tales figure, whom she argues is the first modern character in English literature, in The Wife of Bath: A Biography.
