Books are great — and having friends to share them with is even better.
So here are two articles about literary-minded friends joining forces to boost reading.
The not-as-cheerful one comes from Texas, a state making headlines for its reading restrictions.
Longtime friends Becky Calzada and Carolyn Foote were, understandably, alarmed by and angry over legislative attacks on books.
So the pair — one a library coordinator, one a retired librarian — founded FReadom.us, a resource for embattled librarians and frustrated supporters.

On a more optimistic note, the Guardian ran a feature about multiple sets of friends who are opening independent bookstores across the United Kingdom.
