The man who helped bring Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials to the screen has been tapped to adapt the text of another youth-centric novel.

Deadline reports that Jack Thorne will serve as screenwriter for the BBC's adaptation of Lord of the Flies.

This will be the first time that William Golding’s classic novel becomes a TV series, though it's been made into a feature film twice before.

"Our family has been encouraged by our discussions with them – and as a result we put our trust in their skills and enthusiasm," said Judy Golding Carver, the author's daughter.
