Six novels remain in the running for the 2023 Women's Prize for Fiction.
Debut works still have a strong presence, with three first-time novelists on the shortlist next to two previous winners and one previous nominee.
The judging panel described them all, though, as "ambitious, eclectic, and hard-hitting."
A winner, who receives £30,000 (about $35,300), will be announced June 14 from among these contenders:
-
Black Butterflies by Priscilla Morris
-
Pod by Laline Paull (previous nominee)
-
Fire Rush by Jacqueline Crooks
-
Trespasses by Louise Kennedy
-
The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell (previous winner)
-
Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver (previous winner)
