The ghostwriter for Harry's memoir, Spare, got the royal treatment.

By that, we mean tabloid attention — lots of it, and much of it not flattering.

Writer and journalist JR Moehringer shared his own perspective in The New Yorker, from which other news sources including CNN and TODAY have shared highlights in case you're out of free New Yorker articles.

At any rate, Moehringer describes feeling an early connection with Harry because his own mother had died (albeit more recently than Harry's) and then, eventually, shocked at the media attention he himself received.

Paparazzi and reporters showed up outside Moehringer's son's preschool and peered in his home's windows, he said.
