Sharing an interview with the author of The Red Hotel right now is thematically appropriate in multiple ways.

The book, which releases July 4, takes us to a "gilded cage" in Moscow, where British and American reporters were kept secure — and monitored tightly — during World War II.

With today being the anniversary of D-Day, it makes sense that author Alan Philps would discuss his upcoming book with NPR.

But it's not entirely a history book, given the parallels between Josef Stalin's censorship back then and Vladimir Putin's similar actions today.

Head to NPR to read or hear about The Red Hotel.
