Happy release day to Christian Cooper, whose book Better Living Through Birding: Notes From A Black Man In The Natural World is now out.

You might remember Cooper from the 2020 incident in which a woman threatened to call the police on him, simply because he pointed out that her dog was supposed to be leashed, but as is evident from his interview with Terry Gross — and his book — he's so much more than that one experience.

Cooper was one of the first openly gay writer and editor for Marvel comics and is a longtime birdwatcher, with a National Geographic TV show under his belt nowadays as well.

You can read a transcript of Cooper's interview on Fresh Air or listen to it on NPR.
