Author Shawn Warner hoped to sell a few copies of his debut novel, Leigh Howard and the Ghosts of Simmons-Pierce Manor, at a recent book signing.
But he ended up with something better: a spot in a viral TikTok video.
A passer-by at that event thought Warner looked a little glum while waiting for visitors, so he bought a copy and posted a giveaway on his TikTok account.
Nearly 18 million people watched the video, and enough of them bought the book to launch it to the top of Amazon's charts.
