The “best collection of modern first editions” to hit an auction block in the past few decades will take place this fall, according to experts.
The Guardian reports that Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who died in August 2021, collected mostly 20th-century authors' works.
Among the star items: poet Dylan Thomas’s own copy of his first collection, 18 Poems; a first edition of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, who inscribed it to “the original Gatsby” (his friend Harold Goldman); and a first edition of Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles.
A two-part auction will take place September 28, with an additional online sale stretching from September 15-29.
