Writer Lara Love Hardin has collaborated with some incredible people in her work as a ghostwriter — notably Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama.

But her own life story is nothing to snooze at.

Hardin's drug addiction led her to commit identity theft, in order to pay for her fix.

And upon her release, she found, as so many people with criminal records do, that resuming a normal life isn't all that easy.

Somehow, though, Hardin found her way into a career as a literary agent and ghostwriter.

That story is told in her memoir, The Many Lives of Mama Love, out August 1, and you can take a preview of it in a New York Times profile of her.
