The worlds of film and literature often collide in the form of book adaptations.

Sometimes, though, their intersection takes on different forms.

Here's how books and movies are coming together right now:

  • Film director Pedro Almodóvar's short story collection, released in Spanish this spring, is coming out in English under the title The Last Dream in September 2024 (The Guardian).

  • The documentary Joyce Carol Oates: A Body in the Service of Mind, which premiered at a film festival back in 2021, will now be coming out in theaters and home entertainment platforms on September 8, and the trailer is available now (Literary Hub).

  • Long before Barbie was a movie — but following her release as a doll — she was reading material inspiration, too (BookRiot).

  • And speaking of Barbie — see which version of the iconic doll you would be, based on your book selection (BookRiot).
