The United States is far from the only country that has a dark side to its history ... and a discomfort among many for talking about it.
The New York Times just profiled French novelist Gérard-Martial Princeau, who publishes under the pen name Mathieu Belezi.
For years, Belezi's books on Algeria's years as a French colony drew indifference from most of France's literary community.
It wasn't until last year and his fourth novel, Attacking the Earth and the Sun, that he began to draw positive attention.
Head to the NY Times to hear about why Belezi is so drawn to the French-Algerian conflicts — and why he thinks others are less so.
