Read an excerpt of "The Vaster Wilds"

I'm number nine on the wait list for Lauren Groff's new release, The Vaster Wilds, at my local library.

Honestly I'm thrilled — I expected a much longer line — but I'm also glad that she and her publisher decided to provide an excerpt of The Vaster Wilds to Literary Hub, to tide me over.

The novel, which came out yesterday, takes place in Jamestown, Virginia, during the early days of European settlement.

It follows a young woman who decides to leave servitude behind in favor of the wilderness.
