Merriam-Webster's word of the year selection touches on the same theme that other dictionaries used, albeit from a different angle.
While Cambridge Dictionary and Collins Dictionary chose "hallucinate" and "AI," respectively, Merriam-Webster went for the real deal with "authentic."
It noted that the word was looked up even more so this year, thanks to conversations about AI, celebrity culture, identity, and social media.
