At least from the outside looking in, the theme du jour of parenting seems to be honesty.

The two recent examples to come across this non-parent's radar:

Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett, herself now a mother, looked at past trends in literature about being a mother and what attitude the current movement takes, in the Guardian.

Emily Temple, herself also now a mother, addressed a different facet of parenting and literature: kids books; head to Literary Hub to see the unscientific-but-funny tolerability chart for toddler literature that she and her co-workers created.
