Labels can be limiting, but they certainly serve a purpose when it comes to steering readers towards the right books for them.
Take "romantasy," for example. While the Guardian notes that the word first appeared online back in 2008, it's become widely used only recently — and when you hear it applied to a book nowadays, you know exactly whether you want to pick it up or put it down.
That leads Book Riot to wonder what the next literary portmanteau could be and provides a list of contenders (my money's on "cli-fi").
