Book birthdays: "Carrie" and The Boxcar Children

Carrie by Stephen King and The Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler Warner are not exactly books you'd expect to see lumped together.

But they both celebrate publishing milestones this year: Carrie turns fifty on April 5, while this year is the 100th anniversary of the first installment of The Boxcar Children.

To mark the occasions, NPR is asking readers to identify which of King's many novels is their favorite, while The New York Times looks back at the memorable food featured in The Boxcar Children series.
