Multiple literature-adjacent stories that we missed while taking a break for the Fourth of July feature the darker side of human nature.

So here they are, all at once.

  • Two women have accused author Neil Gaiman of sexual assault; Gaiman denies the allegations (The AV Club).

  • Author Alice Munro's daughter has published an essay in which she describes how her stepfather sexually abused her during childhood, and how Munro remained with him even after learning about the assaults (The New York Times).

  • Hadi Matar, charged with attacking author Salman Rushdie with a knife, rejected a plea deal last week (Literary Hub).
