  • The longlist for the 2024 Baillie Gifford Prize for Nonfiction has been revealed, and it includes Knife, Salman Rushdie’s memoir about surviving being stabbed; a shortlist comes out October 10, and the winner announcement is November 19 (The Guardian). 

  • One of the Baillie Gifford-longlisted books is also on the shortlist for the 2024 Cundill History Prize; the winner, who receives $75,000, will be revealed October 30 (Literary Hub). 

  • The Internet Archive has lost its appeal to lend scanned ebooks without the permission of the books' publishers; a post on its website says it's "reviewing the court’s opinion and will continue to defend the rights of libraries to own, lend, and preserve books" (The Verge).
