  • A Texas county was forced to correctly classify a book about Native American history as nonfiction; a citizen committee had originally called it fiction (Book Riot).

  • A group that opposes the BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) movement released its own letter condemning a recent pledge to boycott Israeli cultural institutions; writers including Lee Child, Lionel Shriver, Adam Gopnik, and David Mamet signed it (The New York Times).

  • Scribd is ending its unlimited subscription model in favor of a credit system for its ereading platform Everand (Book Riot).

  • Barnes & Noble released the finalists for its book of the year award, which will be revealed November 15 (B&N).

  • Collins Dictionary has chosen "brat" as its word of the year, because of its new definition of being "characterised by a confident, independent, and hedonistic attitude" (The Guardian).
