Today's roundup of awards and honors, surprisingly, comprises fewer year-end lists than it does traditional prizes!

  • Anne Michaels has won the Giller Prize for Held; the award — Canada's most lucrative — continues to draw protests over lead sponsor Scotiabank, despite dropping the investor's name (CBC).

  • The Writers’ Trust of Canada also recently announced award winners, some for specific books, others for career work (Literary Hub).

  • Richard Flanagan has won the Baillie Gifford Prize for Nonfiction for Question 7, but in his acceptance speech he said he won't accept the prize money until the fund manager shares its plan to reduce investments in fossil fuel extraction (The Guardian).

  • Book Riot has built its list of the best books of 2024, broken down by genre.
