  • The shortlist for the 4thWrite prize, which is open to unpublished writers of color in the UK and Ireland, has been released (The Guardian).

  • Attorney Spencer Lawton Jr., who was the lead prosecutor in the murder case featured in the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, died November 13 at age eighty-one (The New York Times). 

  • Book Riot has two roundups on book bans and challenges: a weekly deep dive, which focuses on how to prepare your library for the presidential administration change, and additional library news from across the country.

  • Anne Hathaway will star in a movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover‘s thriller novel Verity (The Hollywood Reporter).

  • HBO says its new Harry Potter TV series "will only benefit" from the involvement of creator J.K. Rowling and that she has "a right to express her personal views," in response to the controversy over the author's anti-trans beliefs and comments (Variety).

  • Microsoft has launched an imprint called 8080 Books, which aims to print faster than traditional publishers; its first book, No Prize for Pessimism by Microsoft’s deputy chief technology officer Sam Schillace, is already out (The Guardian).

  • TikTok owner ByteDance says its imprint 8th Note Press will begin publishing print books and selling them in stores in February; the imprint already sells ebooks (The Guardian).
