It feels fitting that our first roundup of news on book bans and challenges is actually mostly about efforts to fight back against these literary obstacles.

  • Kelly Jensen reports on anti-book-ban bills that have been introduced in Arkansas, Michigan, Missouri, and New Mexico already this year — and reminds you, if you live there, to contact your lawmakers in support of the bills (Book Riot).

  • Jensen also recommends, for all library workers, some professional educational opportunities at low to no cost (Book Riot).

  • Romance readers are increasingly becoming active in politics, including but not limited to joining the fight against book bans and challenges (The Guardian).

  • The Tennessee Department of Correction has enacted a new policy that drastically reduced inmates' already limited access to books; freedom-to-read advocates as well as inmates themselves explain why this move is misguided and harmful (WPLN).
