The American Library Association's Youth Media Awards were handed out yesterday; among the winners were The First State of Being by Erin Entrada Kelly (John Newbery Medal); Chooch Helped, illustrated by Rebecca Lee Kunz and written by Andrea L. Rogers (Randolph Caldecott Medal), and Brownstone, written by Samuel Teer and illustrated by Mar Julia (Michael L. Printz Award) (Book Riot).

The Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction were also handed out yesterday: James by Percival Everett won the former, while A Walk in the Park: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon by Kevin Fedarko received the latter (American Libraries magazine).
