  • The upcoming romance novel Sparrow and Vine by Sophie Lark has been pulled by its publisher after advance readers complained about characters' racist comments, among other issues; Lark said her intention was to depict a "flawed character" but that she would revise the work so as not to do further harm (The New York Times).

  • Sophie Elmhirst has received the Nero Gold Prize and its £30,000 (almost $38,700) purse for Maurice and Maralyn: An Extraordinary True Story of Shipwreck, Survival and Love (The Guardian).

  • A collection of JRR Tolkien's letters is up for sale, but it'll cost you £550,000 (over $709,000); it includes the manuscript of Tolkien's collaboration with a composer and letters complaining about a sloppy typist (The Guardian).
