  • James Folta stumbled upon a 2023 study, focusing on Kansas City, Missouri, that found that "public libraries may reduce crime within its nearby proximity" (Literary Hub). 

  • The current edition of Strand Magazine includes a recently discovered short story by Graham Greene, called "Reading at Night," and a little-known short story by Ian Fleming, called "The Shameful Dream" (The Guardian). 

  • Amazon is offering its AI production technology to select publishers so that audiobooks can be narrated and, later in the year, literature can be translated (The Guardian).

  • Wooden carved statues of JRR Tolkien and his wife, Edith, will be unveiled June 6 in the East Yorkshire village of Roos, thanks to the influence that the area in general and a particular summer event in it had on the author (The Guardian).

  • Writer and editor Elizabeth Pochoda, who worked at such publications as The Nation, Vogue, and Entertainment Weekly, died May 8 at age eighty-three (The New York Times).
