Every time we share news of a book adaptation hitting the screen (big or small), we like to gently tease readers.

We know some fans will be thrilled to see a beloved novel come to life, while others will have more complicated emotions or be unequivocally ill over the prospect.

Now, the shoe’s on the other foot.

One of our favorites has landed in the hands of Hollywood, and we’re riding an emotional roller coaster!

We adored The House With a Clock In Its Walls, by John Bellairs, during our early adolescence.

Just a few minutes ago, we saw it listed as an also-purchased item for Sylvia Acevedo’s memoir — but without the distinctive cover that drew us in so many years ago.

So we clicked on it and discovered the reason: It’s hitting theaters on September 21, with Jack Black and Cate Blanchett playing lead roles (and also stealing the visual spotlight from the eerie cover we loved).

Ack! What do we do? Re-reading a childhood favorite is dangerous enough, let alone watching a film adaptation ...
