Two much-anticipated books came out yesterday: The Beautiful Ones, the musician Prince’s memoir, and Find Me, the sequel to Call Me by Your Name.
The Beautiful Ones is an unusual book, for a few reasons — first, of course, because of its author’s dramatic personality, and second, because it managed to come out despite being in its infancy when the author died.
Literary agent Esther Newberg, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, shares how she and Prince connected for the project and what it was like to see it through after his 2016 death.
Find Me, meanwhile, is both something expected and unexpected.
It’s expected in that André Aciman’s latest novel features a May-December flirtation, just like its predecessor (upon which an award-winning movie was based), with ties to the first book’s characters.
But what’s unexpected is that the characters are a much-older man with a much-younger woman — something many stories are shying away from in today’s #MeToo climate.
Though the Guardian says the relationship is done tastefully, without questionable power dynamics, the reviewer finds some flaws in the overall work.
