A defense lawyer for Harvey Weinstein used a potential juror’s book-promotion comment in his request to hold jury selection in secret, reports Vulture.
In his motion, Arthur Aidala, who is defending the movie executive in his sexual assault trial, shared the following tweet:
“If anyone knows how a person might hypothetically leverage serving on the jury of a high-profile case to promote their new novel, [REDACTED], which [REDACTED] called a ‘darkly funny book’ and a ‘witty black comedy,’ dm me, please.’”
The motion also included a Facebook post in which a potential juror was asked whether they’d been selected and responded with a laughing emoji, but Justice James Burke still denied the request to hold the next round of selection in secret.
Weinstein faces five charges in this trial, relating to sexual assaults on two unnamed women, and was also recently charged with rape and sexual assault in Los Angeles.
