For many of us, the mere thought of going without our daily caffeine is enough to send us into a cold sweat.

Enter Michael Pollan, who gave up the drug in coffee and (in lesser amounts) tea, for three months — cold turkey — for his new audiobook, Caffeine.

Pollan shares an overview of his results, as well as some science behind how caffeine works, in an interview about the book with Fresh Air’s Terry Gross.
