French citizens were less than pleased when they heard about some of their authors’ travel plans.

Now residents of the Isle of Skye can commiserate with their frustration.

Author Neil Gaiman had to apologize to them after it was revealed that he’d traveled to his home there from New Zealand, in violation of Scotland’s travel guidelines.

The Guardian reports that Gaiman flew “masked and gloved” to London, then drove to Skye, which he now realizes was “the most foolish thing I’ve done in quite a while.”

The author of Good Omens and American Gods said he and his wife had been experiencing a rough patch, which prompted his journey.
