J.K. Rowling announced yesterday that she was returning to a long-shelved project called The Ickabog.

Though it’s a “story about truth and the abuse of power,” the author famous for the Harry Potter series says the idea long predates any current political events.

But one current event has influenced the story: the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead of one big release, Rowling will share a chapter or two each weekday through July 10 on The Ickabog website; the first two chapters are already there.

She's also adding an illustration contest for children and will donate all royalties from the future print version of The Ickabog (expected in November) to “groups who’ve been particularly impacted by the pandemic.”

You can read more about the story’s origin on Rowling’s website — or head straight to reading The Ickabog.
