Some people pay James Patterson for the privilege of having a character named after them (money that goes to charity, by the way).
A Minnesota woman, however, might be the only person who received that honor for free.
Angela Hoot is both a real-life person (a mother, wife, and Mayo Clinic employee) and a fictitious one (a fiery FBI intern).
She met Patterson when he was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for prostate surgery, reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
The bestselling and, um, prolific author told her back then that he would name a character after her, but the real Hoot didn’t seriously expect it to happen — or remember the promise, for that matter.
An email from Patterson a week before 1st Case’s release, however, refreshed her memory of that exchange.
